Dharma Rain News

Every year we say we will put together something for Pride, and every year we get too busy. This year is no exception. Last year (photo), we marched at the last minute with the Community of Welcoming Congregations (CWC), who welcomes all. We will be doing so again this year, on Sunday, June 18, though some are choosing to sit and watch the parade, also a lot of fun. If you want to march with us (we’ll try to have the DRZC banner and maybe a Buddhist flag), CWC is contingent 159, lining up on NE 9th between Davis and Everett. Step off time for the parade is 11am, but since CWC is near the back, they will be holding the space and you should be fine joining us by 11:30 or so. Genko and J are planning to be there. Who else?

At long last, the first of the two duplexes arrived on the property on Sunday, and work is commencing on making it habitable. These are full-size houses, and moving them from the field in Clackamas County where they have lived for the past several years was a very large endeavor, and not without obstacles. There were several tight turns and some delays in getting it here, and it was Tuesday before it was properly situated. On Wednesday, work party crews took off the protective plywood from windows and doors, and began cleaning under the house – tearing out old insulation, taking of a layer of siding so it can sit properly on the foundation, etc. The other duplex is scheduled to arrive this coming Sunday, June 18. There will be lots of work to do for the next several months. Please join us on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays if you are able. A special work party this Saturday, June 17, from 9am to noon is focusing on work on the duplex. Next week is Genzo-e Sesshin, and one work project during work periods will be working on the second duplex.

We will be moving out of the Siskiyou House at the end of June, so as not to renew a year-long lease. Residents at that house are moving into the 85th House. If you are interested in renting the house (which has a wonderful view of the property), please contact staff for contact information for the most excellent landlord.

Wednesday Work Parties
We have work parties most Wednesdays from 9am to 3:30pm, and there is plenty of work for people to do, inside and outside, light and heavy. Come for as much or little of the time as you wish. We have tools and gloves, but if you have your own, feel free to bring them. If you are around at 12:30pm, we feed you lunch.
