Planting Zen in Siskiyou Square
Yesterday’s work party produced multiple benefits from the work of more than 15 wonderful volunteers. We are clearing out Short-Term storage and beginning to set up spaces in the portable building. Above, you can see shelves and boxes ready to set up the library so you can have access to all those wonderful Dharma books again. To the right of the library is the new office, which can’t complete the move until we have electricity and Internet access. We hope for that to be installed in the next couple of weeks.
Other work projects included planting trees, including madrone along the path (left), and dogwood in the ravine. Doug is continuing to work on the ramp to the deck on the portable building (see below).
Work parties are every Wednesday on the property from about 9:30am to about 3:30pm. Come join in by coming to the gate at NE 85th and Siskiyou. If you don’t see anyone right away, look for people out toward the Sodo. We break for mid-day zazen from 11:30am to 12:30pm at the Siskiyou House (3105 NE 84th, corner of Siskiyou), and lunch at 12:30pm at the 85th house (3155 NE 85th, a block from the main gate).
In ongoing construction, there are now gutters on the Sodo, and talk of deciding on colors to paint the exterior. Lamp poles got delivered last week for street lighting.
