Planting Zen in Siskiyou Square
Yesterday the driveway got torn up in preparation for pouring concrete for the driveway entering the property. Because of this, we won’t be able to drive in to the property for about a week and a half (including Sunday morning). Instead, park at Glenhaven Park at 82nd and Siskiyou, cross at the traffic light, and walk back down 82nd to the path (with the Dharma Rain sign at the end of it), and walk on to the property. You will also see newly-poured sidewalks and driveways in front of both Uji and the Sodo. That started yesterday, and will continue this coming week.
On Wednesday, in addition to a mushroom workshop, we had several volunteers working on the engawa (deck around the Sodo), and it is coming along well. Work will likely continue on that for some weeks to come.
We have work parties most Wednesdays from about 9:30am to about 3:30pm. Park nearby, walk in by the path, and look for people out toward the Sodo. Most of those days we also do zazen in Uji from 11:30am to 12:25pm, followed by lunch at 12:30pm at the 85th house (3155 NE 85th, a block from the main gate).
Please Note: Because of the paving of the driveway to the property, we are NOT ABLE to drive on to the property for about the next week and a half. Access is by the path from 82nd next to the Asian American Plaza. We are asking people to park at Glenhaven Park in order not to overwhelm the neighborhood streets.
