Planting Zen in Siskiyou Square
Today they are cutting down trees along Siskiyou Street in preparation for the eventual street widening. Kakumyo and Fujaku work together on cutting trees. North West Tree Specialists donated a chipper and crew to take care of the remains. After all the trees we’ve been planting, it’s sad to lose trees this way, but it is necessary for street widening and will be beneficial in the long run.
With the early hot dry weather, the pond by Uji is all dried up, and watering our many trees, shrubs, and gardens is taking a lot of our time. This will continue to be the case until we get water on the land. This will happen after the street improvements are done.
We have work parties most Wednesdays on the property from about 9:30am to about 3:30pm. Come in the gate at NE 85th and Siskiyou and look for people out toward the Sodo. We break for lunch at noon at the 85th house (3155 NE 85th, a block from the main gate).
