Planting Zen in Siskiyou Square
Last Sunday the Columbia Land Trust sent a bunch of their Young Ambassadors to work in the ravine pulling weeds and planting mushrooms. Some of our younger members joined them for the first Zen Adventure Club outing. During the afternoon, someone discovered a nest with baby birds in the ravine. Good times!
We have work parties most Wednesdays on the property from about 9:30am to about 3:30pm. Come in the gate at NE 85th and Siskiyou and look for people out toward the Sodo. We break for lunch at noon at the 85th house (3155 NE 85th, a block from the main gate).
This next Wednesday, May 10, you are invited to join us at 10am to celebrate the award of a $200,000 EPA Brownfields Grant to the Northwest Zen Sangha for cleanup at the Dharma Rain Zen Center. Following brief remarks by agencies, partners and the Zen Center, everyone is invited to join a volunteer work party to create fungi-enhanced filter bags and place them in the stormwater swales and channels.
