Planting Zen in Siskiyou Square
Here’s a photo of the path, much of the work accomplished last week. A great advancement over what was there before – see the May 1 photo.
This week the canopy got put back up. Last year it was torn down by ferocious wind storms, and required repair and patching to put back up for the summer. That has been done, and we’ve added another layer on top of that. Ikuo, Kakumyo and Fujaku worked on that, along with our intern Simon, who is under the canopy.
We have work parties most Wednesdays on the property from about 9:30am to about 3:30pm. Come in the gate at NE 85th and Siskiyou and look for people out toward the Sodo. We break for lunch at noon at the 85th house (3155 NE 85th, a block from the main gate).
On Sunday, May 31, from 1:30 to 4:40 there will be a work party on-site. Columbia Land Trust’s Young Ambassadors and DRZC’s YAP group (Young Adult Programming) are getting together to work on the ravine and swales – pulling weeds and planting mushrooms. We’ll meet by the Sodo, tools and materials provided. Family-friendly, although there will be an invitation to get together at a local brewery following. Click here for more information.
