AWAKENING TO WHITENESS
USING THE DHARMA TO DISMANTLE OPPRESSION
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13: 12:30 – 2:30pm
“As practitioners of the dharma, as long as race exists as an aspect of being and society, we are obliged to examine it.” — Zen Buddhist Teacher Greg Snyder
“AWAKENING TO WHITENESS: USING THE DHARMA TO DISMANTLE OPPRESSION” is an open-source curriculum designed to help white people explore the elements that have had the effect of conditioning and distorting our perception of reality in America.
Through a carefully structured series of educational resources and spiritual practices, participants will explore historical and contemporary forces and actions that have had and continue to have harmful impacts on people of color, in the understanding that our own liberation/awakening is intimately bound to one another.
If you attended the orientation session and are ready to commit to attending and completing the six monthly sessions (Oct 13, Nov 10, -no December session-, Jan 12, Feb 9, Mar 8, Apr 12), you can register by filling out the form at the bottom of this page.
If you are willing to commit to attending and completing the six monthly sessions, but were unable to attend the orientation, please register as soon as possible so one of our team members can contact you to brief you on the background, content and structure of the program, because we ask that participants commit to attending all six sessions.
If you have any questions please contact Susana Raine using the email address given above, or see the introductory information that was mentioned at the orientation meeting.
Registration is required and closes on Sunday, September 29, so we can send out the reference materials to be read before the first session.
