In the fall of 2013, Jiko is teaching a Dogen Studies class, assisted by Genko and Kengan. The class will be a chronological overview of Dogen’s writing, in the context of his life and the culture in which he taught. Readings will include excerpts from fascicles of his diaries, the Shobogenzo, the Eihei Koroku, and the Eihei Shingi. Most readings will be handouts given in class, and no single text is required. Reading will be about 20-30 pages per week. Presentations will be done during the final class rather than papers. Fulfills the requirement for Seminary.
