Rohatsu Sesshin
8500 Northeast Siskiyou Street
Portland, OR 97220
USA
Rohatsu commemorates the Buddha’s enlightenment, traditionally December 8th.
This is our longest and most intense retreat of the year, and is the culmination of a year of training. Six full days of stillness, silence, moving in harmony, clarifying our dharma eye through sanzen, talks and reflection is a potent mix. It’s a supportive environment, which makes it a great time both to stretch your practice to new depth, and to reap the fruit of all the mindfulness and meditation you have done this year. Please consider coming for the whole thing, or at least a substantial part.
See the Rohatsu-Schedule-2020.
Financial Assistance
For financial assistance, see the scholarship application and contact the ">shuso. For any other questions or concerns about your attendance, please email the shuso or Dharma Rain.
This year, we will be offering two options to participate:
- 100% Remote, via Zoom
- In-Person without overnights
For those joining via Zoom:
In addition to the morning program from 5-8am that is open to everyone, you will receive a link that allows access to the mid-morning and evening programs, and one to sanzen beginning at 3:15pm. Please attend with your web camera on as much as possible.
Registration for Rohatsu has now closed.
For those joining us in-person:
Morning and noon service and meals are held outdoors, regardless of weather, so participants need to dress accordingly. Due to precautions with COVID, the Zendo is ventilated for airflow above 50 degrees, and is heated/closed below that. We will serve three meals a day, with breakfast and lunch being served Oryoki style. There is no overnight option for Rohatsu this year.
Those not registered are welcome to join the early morning sitting and service via Zoom from 5-8am.
