Starting October 8, and continuing every other Friday through the end of the year, Ko’in and Reiju will lead a book group on My Grandmother’s Hands, by Resmaa Menakem. This book has been very popular and useful for many of us who are interested in working with our own racialized trauma (regardless of race) in order to heal ourselves and our communities of racism. Although not explicitly Buddhist, many of the activities and discussions in the book focus on mindfulness, stillness, and appropriate activity. Because the book is activity based, we will be meeting in person in the library. Everyone is required to be masked and vaccinated. If you have taken Awakening to Whiteness and are looking for a next step, this might be particularly useful in that way, but A2W is not a prerequisite and everyone is welcome to join.

Check with Ko’in or Reiju with any questions and to let us know you’re interested, so we can have an approximate number. Please obtain a copy of the book prior to the first meeting. It is immediately available as an eBook from Multnomah County Library (there are also audio and paperback versions, but they have long waitlists). If you’d like a hard copy but obtaining one will be difficult, please let Ko’in or Reiju know and we’ll help you get one.
