Planting Zen in Siskiyou Square

52intake-filters-600
intake-filter-597There’s a lot going on at Siskiyou Square this week. Kakumyo shows Wednesday work party volunteers how to install intake filters for the storm water inlets. This is to prevent debris and small animals from falling in and getting stuck, blocking the flow of storm water to the system taking it to the dry wells at the southeast corner of the property. We also planted small trees on the berm just south of the Sodo, between it and the gardens.

48water-sewer-workThe work on the street is primarily sewer and water hookup work along Siskiyou from Fremont to about 86th Ave.

soon-to-be-former-office-600The office is in the process of moving from next to the Mekong Bistro in the Asian American Plaza to the west side of Uji on the property. That should effectively happen Friday, October 10, when the Internet connection goes live. There will still be a lot of work to organize and hook up computers successfully, of course. Still, it will be a great relief to have our office finally on the property, though we have appreciated the support of the Mekong Bistro and getting to know some of our neighbors.

55newtreesWe have work parties most Wednesdays from about 9:30am to about 3:30pm. Park nearby, walk in by the path, and look for people out toward the Sodo. Most of those days we will also be doing zazen in Uji from 11:30am to 12:25pm, followed by lunch at 12:30pm at the 85th house (3155 NE 85th, a block from the main gate).
