Fire!

Smoke rises from the end of the driveway.

DRZC would like to send out a big thank you to everyone that came out and helped with the fire yesterday. Fortunately, we had very little damage to our property. The fire came very close to us on two sides. It was only due to the help of our many neighbors that we were able to stop the field fire, and keep the fire next to the apartments from getting worse. One of the Fire Fighters thanked all of the volunteers for helping with the fire. They said that if we had not stopped the fire next to the apartments it may have been much worse. Our Abbot went down and talked with the people who were displaced by the fire and offered any assistance we could give.

It was amazing to see how many people came out to check on the chickens and see if there was anything they could do. It is hard to express all of the gratitude that we feel. We have spent the last five years working to improve this property and are so happy when we see neighbors walking the trails and keeping us apprised when they see something. Please keep coming by. The trails are still open, only a small part of the orchard burned. We many have lost a few trees but that is nothing compared to the total damage that was done by this fire.
