Especially designed for elders and others who might need accommodation and yet still want to practice Zen, this four-hour Zazenkai provides a welcoming space. The schedule will include about 2½ hours of zazen and kinhin. Some of this will be untimed to encourage you to experiment with finding physically and mentally sustainable ways to do your own practice. People are encouraged to experiment with various zazen postures including reclining, sitting in a chair or on a cushion, standing, and walking. There will also be a short service and a discussion around elder and differently-abled practice. Sanzen will be offered. Gyoshi’s Dharma Talk, “The Pivotal Opportunity of Growing Old” provides useful background to the intent of this retreat.

If you are unable to come by 8:30, you’re still welcome to attend. However, you’ll miss some of the orientation instruction and of course anything else that happens before you show up. Lunch is available afterwards but is not part of the retreat. We’ll count at the beginning of the retreat those who wish to stay for lunch. You do not need to register for this event and there is no fee, though a suggested donation to DRZC is welcomed. Please e-mail Gyoshi with questions.
