Planting Zen in Siskiyou Square

140Uji+120Uji-zendo-600During last week’s retreat, we were able to sit in Uji, the portable double-wide on the land. It was sweet to sit with the frogs’ chorus after dark and in the early morning. The photo shows the building, and in the foreground the lamp poles for the street lights. The concrete mounting posts for those were poured last week.

117classroom-library-600The zendo inside Uji is so much more spacious than the Siskiyou House living room, and no one minded that we still sit by candlelight after it gets dark. Weekday morning and mid-day meditation will now be in this zendo in Uji.

119LibraryOpenSoon-600This week seminary and Wednesday night classes started meeting in Uji, in the library area. Work practice during Jukai put books on the shelves, but it won’t be up and operational until we get electricity and computers in there.

We have work parties every Wednesday on the property from about 9:30am to about 3:30pm. Come in the gate at NE 85th and Siskiyou and look for people out toward the Sodo. We break for mid-day zazen from 11:30am to 12:30pm at the Siskiyou House (3105 NE 84th, corner of Siskiyou), and lunch at 12:30pm at the 85th house (3155 NE 85th, a block from the main gate).
