Planting Zen in Siskiyou Square

P0316-kitchen-crewThis week, we are on Jukai Sesshin, and are practicing in the Sodo, thanks to all the good work done on the Sodo as a result of your donations and practice. The kitchen crew begins each work period with a chant.

As the weather begins to warm up and the sun to come out, we are gradually adding outdoor practice. We’ve done some mid-day sits out on the engawa, and we did our first official kinhin (walking meditation) on the engawa Wednesday.

P0316-courtyard-grassesThe grasses are beginning to come up in the courtyard. More gravel is being added to the workshop foundation in preparation for the Barnraising on April 2. This week we are working on sewing, indoor trim, cleaning, engawa, landscaping, and of course cooking for the retreat.

In addition to regular Wednesday work parties (~9:30am-4pm), we can use help from all volunteers anytime that we’re on schedule and not on retreat (i.e., not this week, as we are on retreat). We have several wonderful dedicated volunteers who come regularly on Wednesdays and other times. Just let Ikuo know beforehand so we can count you in for lunch. Zazen is in the Sodo from 11:30am to 12:20pm, with lunch served at the 85th house at 12:30.
