During the Jukai ceremony, individuals receive the Bodhisattva precepts and formally become Buddhists. Receiving Jukai at Dharma Rain is a very personal step toward clarifying and deepening one’s own intention to live as a Buddhist. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this open retreat full- or part-time. The Jukai ceremony will take place at 11 AM on Sunday, March 23.

Once every three years, Dharma Rain celebrates Daijukai, or “Great” Jukai, during which five unique traditional ceremonies are performed embodying central aspects of Buddhist practice. While welcoming and supporting those receiving the precepts for the first time, Daijukai also offers a vital opportunity for all those who have received the precepts in the past to reflect upon and renew their own vows.

For Daijukai, registration is only required for overnights or meals. Registration is not necessary for those who wish to attend zazen and ceremonies. (Please come in at the beginning of zazen, during kinhin, or the beginning of service.) We recommend that those attending the entire sesshin stay at the Zen Center. Another option is to stay at the Center over the weekend, starting Friday, March 21. See the registration form below for fees and various options for attendance. The registration deadline is Wednesday, March 12. An orientation email will be sent to all registered participants prior to the sesshin.
